Lift Off

Get ready for Lift Off, Zinc's auto-leveled and choice-based reading program!

After completing Ignition in Zinc Journeys, Lift Off teaches students the value of motivation and introduces students to the reading practice they'll experience in Missions

While working through Zinc Journeys, Lift Off comes after Ignition and the follow-up Level Placement. This section includes one article and one Creative Reading Experience dedicated to the benefits of reading and how to find motivation to overcome challenges.

Assigning Lift Off

Every student has automatic access to Lift Off through Zinc Journeys on their Zinc homepage. You just need to encourage your students to sign in to Zinc and work on Zinc Journeys. Students will reach Lift Off as soon as they complete Ignition's follow-up Level Placement.

Students must complete Lift Off in order to reach Missions, which has enough auto-differentiated, choice-based reading practice to last the rest of the school year.

Student Experience in Lift Off

Students will automatically reach Lift Off as they work through Zinc Journeys. The assignment will appear immediately after Ignition's follow-up Level Placement. If students exit Lift Off before it's completed, they will see a box on their homepage that will take them directly to the assignment in their Zinc Journeys window.

The Lift Off page includes one article and one Close Reading Experience. Both activities address the challenges of reading and finding motivation. They will be auto-differentiated to match the Zinc Level of the student.

"Motivation?" is in the same interactive style as Ignition and Zinc's Closer Reading Experiences. "Why Read?" works like other Zinc Articles + Texts.

Both activities address overcoming difficulties, specifically the challenge of reading. They discuss the value of internal motivation and love-powered effort.

Implementation for Lift Off

We recommend students complete Ignition as a way to start off the school year and working on Missions to provide year-long, auto-differentiated practice. Lift Off is the natural introduction to Missions, and students will be required to complete it after they finish Ignition and before they begin Missions.

If you're working on Zinc for ten to fifteen minutes, two to three times per week, most students should finish Lift Off within two of these short sessions.

We're excited to share this engaging Zinc tool with you. Try assigning Lift Off today!
